Zaha Hadid:
Organic shapes on curved roof to mirror Zaha Hadid's style of using fluid curves. A curved, hexagonal lattice wall combines Herzog de Meuron's concept of stacked geometrical elements with Zaha's use of curves. Since the core focus was to replicate Zaha Hadid's style, the chairs were also made with organic and wave-like shapes to portray a fluid rhythm.
This concept was also applied to the bridge platforms, crossings and stairs; emphasised by their free form nature.

Herzog de Meuron

Adhering to Herzog de Meuron's concept of using materials in different ways, glass is a recurring theme of the station. This can be seen applied to the bridge's floor. The transparency of the glass act to emphasise other key components of the station including materiality and unique structures.

The use of stacked volumes and geometrical shapes was also applied to further reflect Herzog de Meuron's other concepts.

Exp2 Week3

Textures used:

Light-tone:
The texture was chosen with the quote by Zaha Hadid “There are 360 degrees, why stick to one?” in mind. This texture showcases warped lines which diverge and converge at different areas. It represents Zaha's fluid style that contrasts to fixed and symmetrical lines. As a result, it has been applied to curved and organic structures.
Mid-tone:
This texture was applied on the cross-shaped elevator due to the cross shape. This mid-tone texture was applied to the elevator because of its wood grain characteristics which contrasts against the metallic and glass structure. The intention was to showcase Herzog de Meuron's concept of using materials in an unconventional manner to create innovative facades.

Dark-tone:
Just like the mid-tone texture, this texture has been selected to highlight Herzog de Meuron's style. In addition to adhering to the concept of using materials unconventionally, the texture also emphasise stacked geometric forms.

Stair Models

Stair 1:
The supporting bars are made of steel alloy while the steps are made of concrete.

Stair 2:

Both steps and handles are made of concrete. However, the handle is covered with textures- flexible to the choice of the client.

Concept:

The main concept of the studio is flexibility; which can be seen through the incorporation of numerous, dynamic elements.

On the ground floor, a large, concrete display table is fixed in the center of the room. This is a space for discussion, collaboration and presentation. The table contains multiple integrated chairs which can be slide in and out of the table- providing seats when vacant while minimising space usage when not.  The integration of multiple movable walls allow the manipulation of the space, catering for the clients' various needs. Thus, a large work space can be condensed into private working areas or expanded into large meeting rooms.

Another recurring theme integrated into the studio are rounded or curved objects. This is to reflect the constantly changing characteristic of both clients; CJ Hendry and Gucci. It highlights the notion of their dynamic works- just as a circle constantly changes direction, so does the trend of their contemporary works.

Movable walls can also be found on the first floor. Due to the dynamic nature of the client's works, the flexibility of the movable wall allow them to manipulate the space whenever they want. The movable walls can also be ornamented with textures or drawings. Display podiums can also be adjusted as shown in the image above.
